Diane Lunow

From her bio:

I was born in Canyon City, Colorado, I grew up in Arlington and Houston, Texas. I am a mixed media artist living in Wimberley, Texas. I have three daughters and four grandchildren.

ARTIST STATEMENT: I have tried most art medium and like many of them. So, mixed media fits right in. I now work  natural materials and “finds” for their textures, delicacy and strength. Their natural willingness to allow me to change their form and texture, makes it a perfect medium for my work in gourd art, collage, montage, and assemblage.

An inspiration is my beginning focus. I see something in nature or in a found object that sparks my interest. Then I develop a piece around that inspiration. These inspirations offers infinite possibilities in my work. The processes I use now is basket weaving, loom weaving, collage, beading, gourd crafting, sewing and others. These are, often, all poured into the same piece. I love that my art is so inspiring and hope the viewer is also inspired.

My influencers have been, contemporary artist John Garret;  and basket weaver, Jane Sauer.

There is a mystery and an excitement in each piece I work on. I do not “make a plan.” The piece just grows and changes as I work on it.

I credit my young grandson for reminding me that my art is an expression of myself. My love of the outdoors and deep appreciation of nature makes my work the perfect creative outlet. I incorporates the natural beauty of nature into my designs, using many techniques and adding my own embellishment. Any material is open to my use, and no two pieces are alike. I come back to my studio, day after day because I enjoy my art and the people that I hope it inspires.
